Showroom Highlights Many Design Options

When designing a new kitchen or bathroom, it can be hard to visualize what types of cabinets or finishes would work best in your home. Holzman Interiors welcomes clients to their new showroom in Stamford, Conn., to see many options in Dura Supreme cabinetry.

Visitors to the showroom can see different styles of cabinets for kitchens, or vanities for bathrooms, as well as a wide selection of faucets, tiles, sinks and countertops. The showroom, located at 63 Harbor View Ave., in Stamford, features Tile America backsplash options and tiles.

To help keep your kitchen organized, Dura Supreme offers different drawers, such as ones with dividers for silverware or kitchen tools, or knife blocks within a drawer. A new option is a toe-kick drawer, designed for installation in the toe space of any straight cabinet, adding additional storage space. A touch-latch mechanism is included, so a simple touch of the toe will open the drawer.

The wide drawer can be used to store cutting boards, baking sheets or table linens for example. This type of solution can add more storage space without adding more square footage.

Overall there are 40 new color options being added to the Dura Supreme finish palette.

With different tile and countertop options these stains can match beautifully with stainless steel appliances.

Weathered collection

Reminiscent of softly weathered wood, Dura Supreme’s Weathered collection of finishes looks as if it has been exposed to years of sun, wind and rain. Like an old drift fence, tumbled driftwood, or seasoned barn planks, each of the Weathered finishes portrays wood that has been exposed to the elements. The Weathered Finish collection includes an array of colors that evoke images of sun-bleached driftwood, charred campfires or time-worn dock planks.

Glass cabinets trends

Dura Supreme also has recently updated its cabinetry glass to target trends in kitchen and bath cabinetry. New updates include white and black back-painted glass options, leaded glass doors, and a new collection of mirror options for both framed and mullion cabinet doors.

The largest update to Dura Supreme’s glass program is the new mirror section. Choices now range from beveled mirror, antique mirror, gray mirror, bronze mirror and standard mirror.  Mirrors have been used as a decorative accent in home interiors for a long time, however, incorporating the reflective and airy look of mirror within cabinetry as an emerging trend.  Mirror used within cabinetry doors (behind mullions or simply in place of a glass door) is another wonderful way to add light within a kitchen.

Create A Home Office That Works For You And Your Style

Having a home office can be convenient for catching up on work at home, paying bills and staying on track with your calendar. However, you may think you don’t have room in your house for a home office. Don’t despair! We can help you carve out a corner and make it stylish at the same time!

The kitchen can be a place to create a nook where you can keep your laptop, organize bills and set up a family calendar. Dura Supreme offers kitchen office cabinetry, so a desk can be incorporated under cabinets, or in a separate area such as under a window or in the breakfast nook.

This home office is part of a kitchen design that includes a window seat and breakfast nook. Lots of natural light is an important part of this design, but make sure to include lighting around the desk for cloudy days or late night sessions. Photo by Dura Supreme Cabinetry.

This office spot has a window to let in the sunshine, with lights on either side for further illumination, and one wall for personal photos or inspirational quotes. The drawers and cabinets offer plenty of space for storage.

Items to consider when creating a home office:

  • Think about what kind of desk you like, whether you are fine with a compact space, or enjoy more room to spread out. Desks can be created with a slab of wood, a recycled door, or counter-top material.
  • A supportive, comfortable chair. Even if you don’t plan to spend a ton of time in this space, you want to be comfortable and have a chair that works for the space. You can get an ergonomic chair from an office store or pick a chair that works for the height of the desk.
  • Storage options. Use cabinetry or file cabinets to store documents and files. There are even specialized drawers for printers and keyboards, so you can just pull them out when you are using them and then push them back in when you are done, so they are stored out of the way. Other options include hanging items vertically, to create a wall with folders or floating shelves to store items. On the shelves, you can use baskets or small containers to store different items.

  • Open wall space or bulletin board for creating a calendar, saving notes or reminders and inspiration. There are plenty of examples on Pinterest of different ideas for family calendars, inspirational walls, or using vertical files to organize mail. If you work from home, you can keep track of appointments or create a goal wall. Some ideas include using a chalkboard wall to create lists, or a magnet wall to post items.
  • Lighting, outlets and charging station. Include good lighting over your desk, so even if it isn’t near a window you will have plenty of light. Make sure you have nearby outlets or charging station for your computer, a printer, cell phone, and any other items you may need to charge.

A home office can go in a guest room, bedroom or even a family room as well, with a corner desk or as part of a wall of shelves. In this example, designed by Holzman Interiors, the desk is tucked into the corner as part of an overall design with shelves and storage. Track lighting helps brighten the space, and floating shelves can hold family photos. The keyboard slides out and can be easily put away. Nearby bookshelves can be used for storage as well.

This family room, designed by Holzman Interiors, includes a corner desk and lots of shelving. A low-traffic area can be a great place to create a work space. Floating shelves offer vertical space to display or organize items. Track lighting keeps it bright in a potentially dark corner.

Other unique ideas include using a bar cart as a rolling desk to organize files, books and pens and pencils. This can be rolled out while in use and then rolled into a corner when not being used. There also are plenty of design ideas for turning a closet into an office space with shelves and a desk.

Reduce Clutter

Clear Your Room And Your Mind

Having a cluttered home can be stressful and distracting, making it hard to relax. If you have an organized home, it helps you stay on track and saves you stress and time.

Creating a design that takes into account your collections or interests can help you streamline your vision. Designating spaces for items you treasure, such as books or picture frames, can help showcase them in an intentional way.

holzman_showroom-37
Open shelves in the kitchen can be used to display dishes, cookbooks, or a set, such as a porcelain teapot and matching teacups.

Curating open shelves with items such as glass paperweights, vases, candles, books or photos, can create a display that shows your personality and works in design colors and styles.

At Holzman Interiors we can help you create a vision for your home and life.

Get Organized!

  • Pick a zone and organize: Don’t get overwhelmed, pick a corner or side of a room and focus on decluttering that area and reorganizing it in a way that works best for you. Have a trash bag and recycling container at the ready so you can divide items into discard, keep, and donate or recycle. Get ready to purge!
holzman_showroom-88
Easily reduce clutter in kitchen drawers by setting up dividers and systems. Shown here, spice jars and a knife block can be used, which also helps keep counters clear. Come to our showroom to see examples of many different solutions for kitchen organizing.
  • Have storage planned: We offer storage solutions for all different rooms, whether it is a bedroom closet, a living room built-in or kitchen or bathroom shelves. For example, in a living room you can use built-in shelves to organize movies, CD collections or books. Other options include special drawers in your kitchen to hold utensils or spices, or if you have kids who use the counters for art projects, you can have a drawer set up to hold paints, brushes, paper and more.

  • Think about space saving solutions as well as reducing items: If you have an assortment of scarves, or need to wrangle ties, use a hanger to tie them on or specialized hanger to hold these items. Set up a shoe rack with levels to use the most of floor space in the closet.
  • Go through mail on a regular basis: Have a system and go through to reduce paper clutter, this is one of the things that easily piles up. If you pay bills online, cancel paper copies to reduce mail, recycle junk mail weekly. Try to just touch things one time and decide whether they need to be paid, recycled, or filed. Don’t create more piles, that just makes more clutter.
  • If you have children, work with them to keep toys organized. Go through them regularly and cycle out toys they no longer play with to donate, have storage options labeled so they can help pick up after themselves. Purchase a small bookcase or storage shelving to display sports trophies, art projects, books and more.

Foyer Sets The Stage

A foyer or entryway is a great place to display your favorite artwork. As the entrance to your home, it is the first room guests see, and should be a true representation of your home and style.

Holzman Interiors has worked with many different clients to create a showcase for artwork, creating a focal point by using lighting, paint colors and more.

This foyer in a Union Square condominium showcases the homeowner’s artwork collection.

This Union Square, New York City, condominium remodel included custom carpets and furniture. As shown, the owner had several large works of art that Holzman Interiors used to pick colors, such as for the large vase and glass bowl on the table, which complement the blue bench and blues in the artwork.

This entryway also featured custom furniture and a black and white rug.

Track lighting highlights the artwork, to let the bright colors and shapes add further dimension to the space.

Custom pieces, such as this red ostrich leather bench, can complement artwork.

This Chicago apartment entryway includes a custom red ostrich leather bench. This bench was made to bring out the bold colors in the artwork hung above it.

Having benches or consoles in the entryway is not only visually pleasing, but also functional, as you can use the bench when entering or leaving the home to remove or put on shoes. Console tables also offer places to have an entry light, or a place to put keys or mail.

Holzman Interiors also considers artwork when working with our clients to choose paint colors. Here the dark wall helps showcase the greens in this artwork and the dark wood table.

Using neutral colors can create a soothing vibe in your bedroom, perfect for winding down after a long day.

Darker colors also can be an option, if you like a darker look, such as the new Benjamin Moore color of the year, Shadow 2117-30, a royal amethyst shade that changes in light. This can create a dark room, perfect for sleeping with blackout shades to keep out the light.

Holzman Interiors can work with you, whether you live in the city and have a small bedroom and want a pop-up TV cabinet, or have a larger bedroom where you want to have a sitting area. Other features could include a fireplace or a walk-in closet as part of your bedroom floor plan.

Explore New Colors

Happy New Year! The new year is a great time to make changes or revamp your design look!

It is an exciting time in design, as companies recently announced their Colors of the Year for 2017 in fabrics, paints and more. This year’s colors are bold and exciting, and can be used together for a strong statement, or you can use the bolder colors as accents for a pop of color.

Pantone announced its Color of the Year selection for 2017: 15-0343 Greenery: a “fresh and zesty yellow-green shade” that evokes spring, foliage, and the outdoors. Benjamin Moore chose Shadow 2117-30, a royal amethyst shade that changes in light. Sherwin-Williams highlights Poised Taupe SW 6039 as a timeless neutral that can be used as a main color or a cool accent.

Pantone has selected a color of the year since 2000, and the color can be seen in fashion, home design, as a paint or fabric color. This year’s selection, Pantone 15-0343 Greenery, evokes the first days of spring, when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew.

pantonedurasupremekitchen
Pantone’s Color of the Year, 15-0343 Greenery, is shown here in a modern kitchen, photo by Dura Supreme Cabinetry.

Open spaces in interior and exterior design and floor-to-ceiling windows allow the green outdoors to become part of a room’s backdrop and ambiance, according to Pantone. Adding Greenery through living walls, terrariums, botanically-themed wallpaper, paint, accent furniture and decor provides respite and breathing space. A Greenery-painted wall or piece of furniture delivers a pop of color, with the added benefit of creating the illusion of nature indoors.

Bringing the outside in, the shade — like the plant life it represents — can improve self-esteem, reduce anxiety and heighten awareness of one’s surroundings.

Other companies have followed their lead, choosing colors they see gaining popularity as versatile. Benjamin Moore’s Shadow 2117-30, is an amethyst color that changes in the light, offering a changing ambiance.

“It ebbs and flows with its surroundings, and light brings it to life. Rich, royal amethyst can fade into the soft lilac-grey of distant mountains or morph into lustrous coal. Indulge your mysterious side. Let Shadow set the mood,” says Ellen O’Neill, Creative Director at Benjamin Moore.

Sherwin-Williams anticipates Poised Taupe SW 6039 as defining 2017. This timeless neutral is modern, classic and a beautiful balance of warm and cool.

Taupe can be used as a paint color, or as a neutral in furniture, pillows, bedding and more. It can set the stage for more bold color choices, or provide a calm, restorative mood for a room.
